Today, the contemporaries blame change in climatic conditions for the downfall of the Old Kingdom. This is not completely wrong but Van De Mieroop ha also pointed out towards other factors that led to the downfall of the Old Kingdom. The Old Kingdom started with the Third Dynasty in 2686 B.C. and ended after almost 500 years later. The reasons for the collapse of the Old Kingdom was bad climate that led to the decrease of Nile Floods which proved to be beneficial for the agriculture and bad harvest and bad government who was not able to manage the situation created by bad harvest.
